Pine Tree Trail

Directions:  See Presque Isle map

Description:  Pine Tree Trail, and part of Dead Pond Trail, has a rather extensive area of pine trees (mostly Scotch) planted in the 1930s. Pine Tree Trail is accessible along Thompson Drive near Beach 10 (Budny Beach) extending northwest to the lake. Dead Pond Trail runs almost parallel to Pine Tree Trail. It is easiest to enter from Thompson Circle. Great Horned, Long-eared, Northern Saw-whet, and Eastern Screech- owls have been found here (particularly in winter and early spring) as well as a wide assortment of passerines. A low grassy meadow lies between these plantings. Eastern Bluebird nest in this area as it extends south and east into the Ecological Reservation.
